My Favorite Features from the latest DaVinci Resolve 18
Wow. Today is an extremely exciting day because we just got DaVinci Resolve 18 beta. It’s available now as a download from this link: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/ and anyone can go get it.
Now there’s a lot of great features which you can read about on their website, but I want to share with you my three favorite new tools that I am excited about in DaVinci Resolve 18.
The number one favorite tool for me is the Blackmagic Cloud.
This is the ultimate game changer. I have my color assistant that can do all the shot matching and then I come up with the look and have another color assistant take over the rest. But because these are overseas some of the time, the internet might not be as good, so sending and downloading files can sometimes take awhile. So now it becomes seamless with the Blackmagic cloud.
My second favorite tool is intelligent media management.
The dumb way of the past, where you had to tell it the exact path and file, is now gone. Resolve was really bad about this which is the ultimate nightmare especially when round-tripping or handing off projects. But with this new media management, that is the ultimate game changer when it comes to media management.
My third favorite tool is the improved neural engine.
This is getting smarter by every update. It’s extremely exciting because the kinds of things they are showing you it’s capable of is just next level. For the fusion paint tool, something like this was easy in After Effects, but not in the Resolve world. And then even the object mask, this is a HUGE improvement. They are also promising faster processing. Which makes me want to use it even more. Resolve is in the forefront of this next generation AI color grading and the stuff they are experimenting with is exciting. They are even saying you can do a sky replacement with the object masking.
So these are the three features I am extremely excited about. But I will be doing tons of these on each new tool I find interesting. So I hope you learned something from this and I hope you’re excited for DR18!
