Superfast way to AUTO-REPAIR SKIN in DaVinci Resolve 18

What’s going on everyone! Welcome back to yet another epic tutorial in DaVinci Resolve 18. Today we are going over a superfast way to auto-repair skin. Now this is driven by Resolve’s AI, through the neural engine.

This is the shot we are using.

Let’s say the actor wants the bags removed from under their eyes. In the past, what you would do is go under windows and create windows and track them individually. That takes hours and it’s not practical when working on any project.

Now instead, this is what I am going to do. I am going to type in face refinement in my effects.

Then I am going to drop it on. Then at first nothing happens. What you need to do is first click on analyze.

Look how smart this is. It recognizes the face and eyes. Then it tracks forwards and backwards. Now that we are done with this, you can fine tune it in the effect if it needs it.

Now moving to the texture portion, we are going to change the operating mode to beauty advanced.

Now in this example I am going to exaggerate a tiny bit, but when doing this you want to be respectful.

Now let’s start retouching the eye bags. We are going to go under eye retouching.

Now I want to swing my eyebag removal all the way up. Now we want to go under brightening and bring it up a bit.

That’s already done such a great job.

Now I want to move onto fixing her forehead and make it smoother. So I am going to go into the forehead retouching and start smoothing it out a touch.

Then to do a bit more on the cheeks, we are going to bring up the saturation just a hair.

Now, I am pretty close to being done. All I have to do is under the diffused lighting back in the texture menu, I am going to crank it. That’s where the magic happens. Then if we’ve gone too far, we can use the add texture to bring some of that back.

Just like that, we are done! And it latches when we play it back.

Now a couple caveats to note, if you have two subjects in the scene or your subject is pretty far away, it might not work that well. If you are just seeing the profile of your subject, you have to make a lot of adjustments for it to work. It works best with close-ups.

With that, I hope this was helpful and go play with this tool!
